When it hits on # 37, it's amazing. Kreskin was doing this in his shows a long time ago. I think one can open a show with this and the audience member who thought of the number 37 can be brought up to the stage to do a follow-up effect with their help. One can also force two simple shapes, one inside the other. I once did this to Gerry Griffin at his California Magic shop, and he was stunned lol. Do you use these type of " forced mindreading " methods on participants, and what kind of reactions do you get ? For me it's hit or miss. When I hit, it's a thing of beauty. Best,

I have opened my show with this along with 2 other pieces of business since the early 1960s. I use it as a 'test' to see who in the audience is most compatible with me. Still use it today.

I've been doing this since I was 12 or so years old and I still use it today.
My new favourite use of it is for an impromptu card effect generously shared by Mr. Harry Lorayne here on the Forum.

Years ago at a mentalists convention I was performing at in London I opened with a gag version of this. My instructions were not quite correct (on purpose) so the end number called out was 113. After looking crestfallen, I showed my prediction was correct, lol. It was a set up of course, perhaps the only time I ever used a stooge (something I don't believe in for lay audiences).

I've opened with something like this. Bob Cassidy talks about using macro-effects for the entire audience as an opening effect. I think it works better in a stage or larger group setting. If the premise fits, you are sensing who in the audience has a stronger connection.

Resurrecting an old thread to ask the question; does anyone know of a credit to this psychological force or ones like it (68/86)? Any info would be wildly helpful.
Thanks, Craig

Go to JAW DROPPERS TWO - check out an item titled Eight To Fourteen to learn unbelievable uses for the forces mentioned here - with a borrowed deck of cards. (My opening line in that item: "I have the feeling that some will love this and that others will think 'Get outta' here!'") Since the book has been out and in many hands - I've learned that many "loved this."

Maybe the Banachek book can give you a credit where this started. I know Kreskin was doing this in the 70's with his shows. Logan,

I'm one of the ones who loves it. I do it the first way described with the 14. This is a really effective item and the "outs" don't seem likes "outs" in the least- it's a gem.
